I'm a senior here at the University of Alabama.

I'm from here in Tuscaloosa.

I have an awesome job with the women's basketball team as the student video coordinator

I love what I do. Its high stress and long hours, but it’s really rewarding at the end of each day (even if that day ends at 4am) and I hope to get a full time position after I graduate.

I want to learn lighting in film; it’s what seems to interest me the most.

I broke my arm this summer and lost nerve function to my right hand, I’m already getting use back months before I’m supposed to, so I’m happy about that!

I hate math with a passion, also strawberries and cherries.

I love horses and hope to run a ranch one day (after my film career of course).

My favorite show is the office and my favorite 5 movies (as of now, in no order) are Sin City, The Dark Knight, True Grit (remake), The Blues Brothers and Gladiator.

I love Alabama Football! Roll Tide!!

Welcome to the Course! / 10 Things About Doc Raimist

This site is for the spring 2012 section of TCF 312. On this site we will post group video assignments, links of interests, readings and other material relevant to this course.

Since you all have done your "10 Things" post on your individual blog, I thought I'd share some of my "fun" facts here:

1. I have four college degrees, so yes, I am Dr. Raimist, B.A., M.A., M.F.A. and Ph.d. --- crazy huh?!

2. My father was Dr. Raimist and now so am I. His nickname was "Doc," so you can call me doc too! I  just did a search for my father (who passed away in 1998 and found the photo below - I've never seen it before now). He is the man at center in the white tee. He was a Navy man; this is a photo from those times... maybe the 1940s or 1950s. I think that I have his big forehead. = )

3. It is possible that my forehead also came from my beautiful grandmother, who also had a big forehead. This is a photograph of her holding my mom, circa 1944, taken in San Juan, Puerto Rico.

4. My Mom, who also passed in 1998, wanted to be a flight attendant and travel the world. Thankfully she got to travel to France, Greece and Italy, before her passing. I think this photograph was taken in 1978 or 1979, when I was four or five years old.

4. I think that's why I love to travel so much. I've been to every U.S. state except Alaska, Montana, Wyoming, and North Dakota. I've also been to England, France, Chile, Argentina, Dubai U.A.E, Norway, the airport in Amsterdam. and Nigeria. I can't wait to go to Australia, Japan, all over Africa... anywhere someone will pay for me to travel!

5. I LOVE documentary films! My favorites are about people and their family stories. There are too many to name, but a tried and true favorite that always makes me laugh and cry is Nobody's Business. Here's an interview with the film's director, Alan Berliner.

6. In lighter news, I <3 Damon Salvatore, an evil-ish vampire brother on The Vampire Diaries --- it's a guilty pleasure that I'm not so guilty about.

7. I also <3 Jeremy Wade and watch River Monsters religiously, although I don't particularly love to fish, but my Dad did!

8. My favorite movie character is Lloyd Dobler.

9. I am equal parts gear-head, tech nerd, and feminist. There is a room named after me at the University of Minnesota.

10. Most days, I love what I do. I find that when I'm doing things that I love (like running the video crew at the Tuscaloosa Amphitheater), I laugh and smile quite loudly, see here:

Finally, I love to teach this class and am super excited about this semester!
